The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel is Definitely Binge (Report) worthy!
This writer just finished the second season of the Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. All I can say is wow! Rachel Brosnahan (Midge Maisel) is amazing. We here at the Binge Report are in love with her. She gained national attention during 2018 and took home the Primetime Emmy Award for outstanding lead actress in a comedy for this role.
Anyone writing about shows that you want to binge must toe the line about making you want to watch the show without giving up too much of the plot. The show centers around Miriam “Midge” Maisel and how she navigates 1950’s Manhattan. Each show is 60 minutes in length and focuses on Midge who according to the plot summary is a “a sunny, energetic, sharp, Jewish girl who had her life mapped out for herself: go to college, find a husband, have kids, and throw the best Yom Kippur dinners in town. Soon enough, she finds herself exactly where she had hoped to be, living happily with her husband and two children in the Upper West Side. A woman of her time, Midge is a cheerleader wife to a man who dreams of a stand-up comedy career, but her perfect life is turned upside down when her husband suddenly leaves her for another woman. Completely unprepared, Midge is left with no choice but to reevaluate what to do with her life. When she accidentally stumbles onto the stage at a comedy club, she soon discovers her own comedic skills and decides to use this newfound talent to help her rebuild a different life for herself.”
Some of our users are now just getting the feet wet meeting Midge in Season 1 and in a conversation today with a friend I learned that they liked Season 1 better than Season 2. This writer disagrees. Season 1 was a breath of fresh air and we learned so much of the backstory of Midge, Season 2 is a rocket ship ride that you have to have hold on really tight to. There are twists and turns and many of the plot twists you can’t see coming.
To sum up, if you are looking for a fresh looking show that bucks the norms and the trends and really tells it like it is like Midge’s potty mouth (which for most of her 1950’s friends is a revelation) you should go to Amazon right now and watch this show. It’s worth giving up your weekend for. To see more information on the Marvelous Mrs. Maisel check out the Binge Report.
